Setting a Table Worth Remembering

A table is the first thing your guests read. Before the toasts, before the first course, the table tells them what kind of evening this will be.

The most memorable tablescapes are rarely the most elaborate. They are the most considered. A linen with real texture. Candlelight at two heights instead of five. Florals that look gathered rather than arranged. Each layer earns its place, and everything that does not is quietly removed.

When we design a table, we begin with how the evening should feel and work backward. Intimate calls for low light and close settings; celebratory calls for height, gleam, and a little theatre. The materials follow the feeling, never the other way around.

Restraint is the discipline that makes the rest sing. Leave room for the meal, for hands, for conversation. A table worth remembering is one your guests can live at for four unhurried hours.
